What the gate laptop needs

Before your shift starts — once.

An NFC card reader, plugged in

On a USB port. The reader ripples on screen when it is ready and turns green when it reads.

It works offline

The day’s list is kept on the laptop; it decides from it, records crossings on it and sends them when the link returns. Wiped at the end of the day and on sign-out.

Full-screen

Press F11 once it opens. The screen is built to be read from a metre away, day and night.

Every decision is one key, no mouse:
